Who we are. PatchHub is made by TallNuff Tech Ltd, United Kingdom. For anything in this policy, email [email protected].
The short version. The app does not track you and does not send us your work. It contacts us in six situations. Three of them you start yourself: activating a licence, starting the free trial, and filing a bug report. The others are the optional usage data you choose to send, the update check, and the licence re-check with Polar, all described below. Nothing else leaves your computer. We hold what we need to sell you a licence and to support you, and nothing else.
Your work stays on your machine. PatchHub runs on your computer. Your show files, device names, IP addresses, drawings and cabling never leave it. There is no account, no cloud sync, and no tracking, except the optional anonymous usage data described below. Apart from that, we do not log what you do in the app, which features you use, or when you open it.
Your licence is checked on your own machine first. Once activated, PatchHub verifies its licence key locally and needs no connection to keep working. There is no licence server of ours, so nothing we run can stop the app working during a show. When it is online, the app also re-checks the key with Polar, as described below.
When you activate a licence. Activation contacts our payment provider to register that key against this computer, so that one licence runs on one machine at a time. It sends the key, the name of this computer (its hostname), a scrambled code derived from the computer's hardware identifier, the PatchHub version and whether the computer runs macOS or Windows. After that the app works offline. Moving a licence to a different machine contacts them again, for the same reason, and releasing it in the payment provider's portal frees the seat.
When the app re-checks your licence with Polar. When the app is online it asks Polar whether the key is still valid for this computer: a minute after it opens, every six hours after that, and whenever you press the button on the licence screen. It sends the key, our organisation identifier and the activation identifier Polar issued when this computer was registered, and nothing else. If Polar says the key has been revoked, disabled or expired, or released from the portal, the licence is removed from this computer. If Polar cannot be reached, the licence stays, so a venue with no internet is never locked out. The app does not re-check while real hardware is connected, and tries again later.
When you start the free trial. The app sends a one-way scrambled code derived from your computer's hardware identifier, so a trial cannot be restarted over and over on the same machine. We store only that code and the date. It cannot be turned back into your hardware identifier, and it is not linked to your name, your email or your work. If the check cannot reach us, the trial starts anyway — we would rather someone got an extra trial than have our servers stop your app working.
Checking for updates. Every copy of PatchHub checks updates.patchhub.app for a newer version: shortly after it opens, then about every ten minutes while it is open. A check is skipped while real hardware is connected, and no check is made at all if you set updates to manual. The check sends only what any web request carries: your IP address, which Cloudflare sees, and the PatchHub version in the request. It sends no project data.
Anonymous usage data. PatchHub can send anonymous usage data, but only if you choose Yes when it asks, and you can turn this off at any time in Tools → Settings. When it is on, the app sends one short message a day containing a random number created on your computer when you agreed, so one install's data can be told apart from another's without saying whose it is. The message also holds the PatchHub version, whether you use Mac or Windows, the date, how many minutes the app window was in use that day, and how many times each section of the side bar was opened. It never includes your shows or projects, device or port names, anything you type, IP or email addresses, licence keys, or a record of what you clicked, and our server does not store your IP address. Turning it off stops sending immediately, deletes anything not yet sent and deletes the random number.
What we collect when you buy. Your name, email address and the country your payment came from, plus a licence key we generate for you. Payment is taken by Polar, who handle the card details — we never see or store your card number. Polar hold their own record of the transaction under their own privacy policy.
What we collect if you contact us. Whatever is in your email, kept so we can help you and so we have a record of the licence moves we have made for you.
What we collect if you file a bug report from inside the app. Only when you press Send in the Report window, PatchHub sends: what you typed; your name and the email on your licence (or the name you give); the PatchHub version, operating system and which page you were on; a count of your devices and cables; a screenshot of the PatchHub window; the app's own activity logs from this and the previous session, and any crash log; and, if you leave the box ticked, a copy of the current project (your show file). It travels through our Cloudflare service to our private GitHub repository, where only we can read it. Untick the project box if your show is confidential.
What we do not do. We do not sell your data, we do not advertise to you, we do not profile you, and there are no third-party trackers or analytics on patchhub.app.
How long we keep it. Trial codes are kept while the trial system needs them and deleted on request — email us and we will remove yours. Everything else: as long as we need it to support your licence, and at least six years for anything that forms part of our tax records, as UK law requires.
Your rights. Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it (where we are not required to keep it), and object to how we use it. Email [email protected] and we will respond within one month. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
